CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
âYou have verified this information?â Korgan Garmon studied the faces of his sub-officers.
âYes, my Lord. The Watcher Fleet has been amassing data on all the systems surrounding the humanz homeworld. It seems that they will appear at the edge of a system and spread out, using full sensors. The normal size of their force is five ships, one being a fighter carrier they take with them everywhere they go. We havenât yet been able to confirm data that theyâve built a new type of small fighter craft. But if it is so, then theyâre faster, harder to hit, and even harder to stop. One report has these small ships disappearing as into contra-space.â
âI refuse to say impossible where these creatures are concerned, but I donât want us giving them too much credit.â Korgan gestured to seats around a table about fourteen feet wide and fifty feet long. There was barely enough room for the assembled group to sit.
âYouâre all here today because I ordered each of you to deliver to me a plan to fight this war, win individual battles, or capture some of these humanzâ ships.â He gestured to the stack of reports sitting beside him. Now was the time to make the gamble heâd envisioned years earlier. He stood up and seared the faces of those sitting with his glare. âI do hereby assume personal control of all Garmon ships.â The murmur of voices quickly stilled when several dozen warriors stepped out from behind the ornamental pillars lining the room. âWe will continue our reconstruction projects and get ourselves back into the bigger universe outside our own. First, the shipyards that arenât ready to produce ships will be finished. Second, there has been one plan that struck me as possible. I want the new advances these humanz seem to have squeezed out of Shiravan technology. Therefore, I am going to adopt this plan,â he took one off the top of the stack.
âIt takes into account that these humanz have some predictability about them,â he said, tapping the stack of papers on the table. âThey are constantly patrolling the systems around their own sun, usurping Garmon territory. So, we will set a trap in one of their favorite systems to patrol. Sept Leader Gubarak proposes using thirty standard raider ships and one of the new super ships.
âI propose adding four more hands of ships under Gubarakâs command. These ships will come from Clan Garmon, and not the rest of the clans or septs. Those ships will be used to throw their tactics back in their faces. We have more ships, but theirs are better. Thatâs what Gubarakâs expedition is to find out. With fifty ships and a super ship, he should be able to overcome a mere five ships, even if they are all full of those damnable little ships. The fleet is to bring back any wreckage from humanz ships and whole ships if at all possible, even the little fighters. Our scientists can surely learn something from even them.
